Scenic Bird Food Feeding Directions - High Energy Hand Weaning Food

CAUTION: Do not add supplements to this formula. This practice will upset the delicate balance of nutrients already present and potentially cause contamination.

ALWAYS USE A THERMOMETER. Young birds have keen temperature sensitivities. If too cold, food will not be readily accepted; if too hot, usually over 120°, it may burn soft crop tissues.

PROPER FOOD TEMPERATURE IS 101° - 108°, F.

IN A SUITABLE STERILE CONTAINER, CROCK, or MUG, heat water to 101° - 108° F. Add the weaning food and stir slowly to moisten. The temperature will drop. Add more hot water to keep temperature in the proper range. The morsels will absorb the water like a sponge. Feed it to the young bird by holding it in your fingers. This hand weaning food is designed so that it will not lose its shape when wet.

Elicit a feeding response from your bird by touching its beak with one hand. With the other hand, present a warm morsel. In a natural response, the juvenile will reach for the wet morsel. Drop the morsel towards the back of the bird's throat. Help your bird "pump it down", if necessary, by messaging the crop. Allow ample swallowing time between morsels. Your young bird will not over eat. Fill the crop until the bird is satisfied and loses interest in continuing with the present feeding.

Please store in a cool and dry location. Keep covered when not in use. Refrigeration is not required.
